From the Pastor’s Desk

Dear Beloved Members of Zion

The church is more than an organisation. It is an organism and it must grow. But what generates growth? Before we can talk about corporate growth as a church, one must look at personal growth. If there is personal growth, and when these individuals get together, cumulatively, they result in corporate growth.

What marks a healthy spiritual growth for an individual believer? May I suggest the following:

  • Personal spiritual discipline of prayer and bible study in quiet time with the Lord on a daily basis.
  • Personal growth in the area of spiritual development where one is grounded in the Word corporately through Christian Education.
  • Personal growth in the areas of relating to the church family through home cells where believers have an intake of the Word and in fellowship.
  • Personal growth in the area of corporate prayer – if we are united in prayer, we shall find victory in our spiritual walk with the Lord both individually and corporately.
  • Personal ministry where one contributes to the health of the church in different areas of Christian service using their gifts and talents that God has given to each of us. All believers are given gifts. Knowing one’s gifting is an essential part of contributing to the Body of Christ.
  • Personal growth in the area of evangelism and missions. Telling others about the Good News. Evangelism is the outward expression of our inward change where one tells others about what God has done in their lives. One testimony declares the tangible expression of God to others who have never seen or experience God. We are God’s change agent to the lost world.

ZFGC is the local church that God has placed you and I. God has called the local church into being to fulfil God’s heartbeat in the Great Commission. The church does not exist to be a social club but a catalyst where God’s unreserved love is poured out into a lost world. It calls for you and me who are called by His name to demonstrate what we have received.

You may have heard this before but I am saying it again. Church growth is everybody’s responsibility and only when we are TOGETHER can we make the difference.

The ZFGC leadership has provided all that we have to be part of God’s plan but we need your participation. We need you to take ownership of the opportunities that are available to you. We need to see healthy participation in our Prayer Meetings, Christian Education, Home Cells, Ministries and in our regular church services.

I have no personal agenda for moving into GV except to make room for growth. We thank the Lord for what we already have, and we must believe for more.

Empty seats are not a good sign for positive growth. Every seat needs to be filled with unchurched souls and they won’t just walk in, they need to be invited. That’s where you come in – as a friend, colleague, neighbour, family member, and one who cares enough not to let this one precious soul miss out the opportunity to hear about Jesus Christ.

Dear members, we need you. Don’t ignore this letter. This is my pastoral plea to you to make a difference in this imperfect church.

If you are willing, no challenge is too great, and no gift is too small or excessive for God to use.

Please heed the call and together let us make a difference for the year 2009 and beyond.

If you like to respond to this plea and would like to know how you can be more involved, please give me a call at 9069-4368 and I would love to hear from you.
