From the Pastor’s Desk
Dear Church,
Wishing all members and attendees of ZFGC a Blessed and Happy New Year 2012!
I am glad to be living in Singapore because Christianity is so much alive in our nation. There are so many churches, and one can choose to attend any of them within close proximity to each other. Although there are many denominations, yet the fundamental doctrine of salvation only in Jesus Christ is still the main thrust of the gospel. One cannot overlook the fact that Christian seminars are also easily available at any time of the year. In fact, in zest, I would conclude that it is hardly impossible for anyone to miss out on their salvation because there so many available resources and gospel meetings available to those who want them. The question is, with so many of these available opportunities, why is it we do not see many coming to know Jesus as their Personal Saviour?
I believe the world has heard much of our professions as a Christian but what they really need to see is our demonstration. We must all walk the talk.
Our church theme for year 2012 is WORTHY OF HIS CALLING taken from the book of Ephesians 4:1. It is based on Paul’s appeal to the church in Ephesus to believers to live a life worthy of God’s calling.
For the entire year, we will be focusing on the entire book of Ephesians to give us a balance understanding of the need for balance between doctrine and practice.
The book of Ephesians was written to teach us all about who we are in Jesus Christ. What we have because of our relationship with Him. And how to use what He has given us for the glory of God.
Ephesians falls neatly into two parts. Doctrine occupies the greatest portion of the Book of Ephesians. Half of the teaching in this epistle relates to our standing in Christ, and the remainder of it affects our condition. Chapters 1-3 are doctrinal in nature, while chapters 4-6 are practical. The first three chapters (1-3) tell us what we have because of who we are in Jesus and the last three chapters (4-6) tell us what to do with what we have.
Perhaps more than any other book of the Bible, the Book of Ephesians emphasizes the connection between sound doctrine and right practice in the Christian life. Far too many people ignore "theology" and instead want to only discuss things that are "practical." In Ephesians, Paul argues that theology is practical. In order to live out God's will for us in our lives practically, we must first understand who we are in Christ doctrinally.
The Bible always stresses a balance between the content of one’s beliefs and the resulting conduct in one’s life. In order to live a balanced Christian life there must be good sound Biblical teaching. Practice without sound Bible teaching will go off in any and every direction. We can never attach too much importance to solid Biblical doctrine yet on the same note; we must never detach the importance of putting into practice what we understand to be true. Our practice should equal the teachings of our doctrine because our conduct is the most effective sermon that will give consistent, undeniable evidence of the truth of the gospel. That is why we should take great pains to see that our lives are lived in perfect balance and that is Paul’s appeal to the church in Ephesus and likewise to all of us.
To help us appreciate the main theme of WORTHY OF HIS CALLING, we have divided the focus into four sub-themes throughout the year:
- THE CALL TO OUR INHERITANCE - Ephesians 1 - 3
(January - April) - THE CALL TO MATURITY - Ephesians 4
(May - July) - THE CALL TO WISDOM - Ephesians 5
(August - October) - THE CALL TO OBEDIENCE - Ephesians 6
(November - December)
The Apostle Paul in his appeal to the believers in Ephesus reminded them to WALK WORTHY of their calling. The NIV translate it as LIVE WORTHY.
Now walking and living is very different. In the original text it asks us to walk worthy of the calling not live. Living can be passive; you can just sit and do nothing yet live. Living can be motionless; you can go through life and yet not go anywhere. Living can be pointless; you can go through life with no sense of purpose or goal.
Walking, however, must be active; you must get up and take action. Walking is progressive; with each step you are moving out of one place and into another. Walking has direction; you are looking forward to where you are going. We are not just taking a walk in the park—we’re going somewhere.
So when we are following God we must walk worthy of our calling. We need to take action on the Word of God. The Word of God has to be totally obeyed and practiced in our live. We must walk according to the Word of God and live like a child of God. Amen!
Dear beloved members beseech you to walk worthy of your calling in Christ Jesus.
I want to see you to be excited at what God has destined you to be and be excited at what he has destined you to do.
Have a blessed and fruitful 2012 in Jesus!
